Brief: Appointed in 2021, the National Football League (NFL) tasked PPL with changing the overall look and feel of the NFL London Games programme, increasing advertising income and improving direct sales to the fans.

Solution: The new look programmes were changed from A4 to a fan-friendly, easy-to-carry landscape 168 mm H x 240 mm. In consultation with the NFL, PPL created a visual style for the programmes that reflected the NFL’s core branding values around the event, projecting the excitement of the teams, the NFL, The International Series Games, and the sport of American Football. The programmes were illustrated with exciting action photography to enhance the readership and add impact to the features.
The front cover design included Spot UV on Matt paper, with barcodes applied. To meet the production and print deadlines, page plans, and print schedules were prepared in advance showing feature and advert positions. Editorial, production and printing deadlines were defined to streamline the production of the programmes. Advertising pages were standardised, with some pages given prime position to help to maximise income generation, we also added a classified sales section as a further revenue stream.
Result: A modern, up-to-date, stylish programme very well received by the NFL and its partners, direct sales and advertising income were increased. PPL were awarded a contract extension for the London Games and the addition of the production of the official programmes for the Games in Munich and Frankfurt.
