UK Athletics – Programmes

Brief:  The PPL Group produce and sell the official Indoor and Outdoor event programmes held in Birmingham, Glasgow, London, Manchester, and Sheffield.

Working closely with UK Athletics (UKA), PPL was initially tasked with changing the overall look and feel of the programmes and improving direct sales to the fans.

Solution:  We re-designed the programme to be a fan-friendly, easy-to-carry portrait 245 mm H x 170 mm W.  Creating a visual style for the programmes that reflected the sport’s core values, projecting the excitement of the events to the fans.

A grid system was designed to enhance the experience of the events, spectators can fill in the results, thus making the programme a souvenir of the day.  The programmes are illustrated with exciting action photography to enhance the readership and add impact to the features and athlete profiles.

To meet production and print deadlines, page plans, and print schedules are prepared in advance showing feature and advert positions. Editorial, production and printing deadlines are defined to streamline the production of the programmes.

For onsite sales operations, sales booths we build for UKA which can be branded for each event.

PPL’s in-house sales team collate the hospitality and complimentary lists and deliver by name and location, a day before the event.

Result: Modern, up-to-date, stylish programmes, very well received by the UKA, the spectators and UKA partners and sponsors.  Direct sales were substantially increased, generating enhanced income for UKA.
